Saturday, August 11, 2007 - Moments ago, the Nassau West Supreme Court voted unanimously to declare Nassau West President Kelly K. Bartram unfit for service, and temporarily bestowed all presidential powers and duties on Vice President Michael O'Brien, effective immediately.
This is about the sixth time that power has been transferred temporarily from Bartram to O'Brien since O'Brien retained his position as Vice President in 1996. This time, unlike the others however, may be permanent, depending on the outcome of The Federal Republic of Nassau West v. Bartram.
Bartram was arrested by the Nassau West Marshal's Service on Thursday evening at the Nassau West Capitol in connection with an alleged drunken melee that resulted in severe damage to the Spread Eagle Saloon. The Nassau West Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms, and the Nassau West Federal Insurance Corporation are currently in the saloon tallying up the damage.
President Bartram has been initially charged with four misdemeanors and one felony count of destruction of private property of over $500. If convicted only on the one felony, Bartram would be forced to resign, or face removal from office by the Nassau West Presidential Security Service.
Nassau West law does not permit anyone to serve in a governmental capacity that has been convicted of a felony. The Supreme Court has temporarily removed Bartram for his implied commission of a felony, and to give him adequate time to defend himself and to get himself "on the wagon" again.
The Attorney General's Office has determined that their is sufficient evidence in this case to warrant bringing the matter to trial. President Bartram has been remanded to in-house custody at the Capitol until trial.
The President will be formally indicted on a number of charges, some quite serious, Saturday afternoon. Bartram's arraignment is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Sunday in Nassau West Superior Court No. 7.
The AG's Office, which generally defends the President, will not be available to Bartram, as it would present a conflict of interest. It is unclear at this time whether or not he will have private representation.

Within thirty days, the satellite television, DSL Internet, digital music channels, and long distance phone service will all be canceled with Qwest.
The only remaining services will be basic phone service and dial-up Internet.
This is being done in an effort to sustain the federal budget longer as the pending sale of the Capitol may take quite awhile due to current economic conditions.
