A Brief History of Nassau West

The Federal Republic of Nassau West was founded in August of 1989 by Kelly K. Bartram as a high school project. His friend Shawn Crosier founded Brigadoon at the same time. The two were to create nations from scratch. They picked names, chose their titles (both selected "President"), staked out territory, and set up new fictitious governments on paper in Scottsdale, AZ.

The goal here was to determine who was more of a civic leader between the two. This all started at the lunch tables with daily political conversations and daily political disagreements. Mr. Crosier was a liberal Democrat, and Mr. Bartram was a conservative Republican. Neither has changed much politically.

The two non-existent countries continued on paper until March of 1992, when Brigadoon signed an unconditional surrender of its territories and the rest of the world, to the Federal Republic of Nassau West. So, on paper anyway, Nassau West was the only nation on earth, and remained so until 1996 when NW got lonely.

A new nation called Chaos formed the First Unified Council of Kingdoms (FUCK) with Nassau West, both as charter members. While Chaos did not survive its first year, Nassau West continues as a proud charter member of the FUCK. Over the years, several nations have come and gone, and some have joined the FUCK.

In early 1996, Nassau West President Kelly K. Bartram married Heather Hutchison in an imaginary wedding ceremony, making her the first (and only, thus far) First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nassau West. Their Nassau West marriage was not legally binding or even recognized outside of Nassau West and its territories.

Unfortunately, sometimes things don't work out the way the should, and their marriage was anulled in July of 1996 by Nassau West Supreme Court order. Although both have moved on, they still remain very good friends to this day. She is currently (legally) remarried, with a child on the way, to Todd Lombard in Chandler, AZ. A few years back, she had a couple of different nations that participated in the FUCK. She is currently retired.

Some member nations include Tokyo North, Tequila Sunrise, the United Dekieffian Imperial Empire (UDIE), Blue Scotland, and more recent current member nations the Xochi Republic, led by President Christopher Walsh in Phoenix, AZ, and the Savage Nation of Tigibumwah, led by Chief John Kieff in Mesa, AZ.

Nassau West has had an expanding and contracting number of embassies since its inception. Currently, Nassau West has fewer than six embassies worldwide due to financial shortfalls. At its height of influence, the nation had more than ten embassies in three countries. The embassies are governed by the Nassau West Department of State and the Secretary of State.
